Comparing objects to determine which is longer or shorter

measure objects using non standard units

We can measure objects using nonstandard units
such as connecting cubes, paper clips, pencils, erasers, crayons, hands, feet, and shoe.

The pencil is 5 small paper clip long
The pencil is 3 big paper clip long
So will that be accurate  if we measuring using paper clip ? or eraser ?

Because of that, we must measure using rulers as tools for measuring with standard units.

units on the ruler we called sentimeters (cm)

 Example:

The pencil is 16cm long

The crayon is 7cm long.

The paper clip is 4 cm long .

So, which is the longest ? pencil, paper clip or crayon?
Which is the shortest ? pencil, paper clip or crayon?

100centimeter = 1meter
100 cm           =  1m

Try to cut a 1m rope ^ ^

Time Guide B

Telling Time

The Long hand on a clock or watch is the Minute hand .
There are 60 minutes in one hour.
* The short hand on a clock tells the hour. Always use the last number that the hour hand has passed.
* The long hand tells the minutes. Always count by 5s when reading the long hand.

Example: In this clock the hour hand is on 7, and the minute hand is on 12. The time is Seven o'clock.

    7:00
    7 o'clock
    Seven o'clock
In this clock the hour hand is on 8, and the minute hand is on 6. The time is Eight- thirty .
       8 : 30
       Eight thirty
        Half past eight
According to the chart we tell time like this :

It is 15 minutes past 7

It is 20 minutes to 8

Time Guide A

This is a clock

Clocks measure and show us time.

The part of the clock with the numbers in a circle is called the "face" of the clock.

The clock also has hands that move to show what time it is.
The short hand on the clock  is called the hour hand.

The long hand is called the minute hand.

The longest hand is called the second hand.
There is a way to always remember this.

The word MINUTE is longer than the word HOUR, so the MINUTE hand is the LONG hand and the HOUR hand is the SHORT hand on the clock.
We say the hour hand first, then the minute hand

We can remember this by thinking ... the little guy goes first.  The hour hand is the shorter one, the little guy, so we say what he is pointing to first.  Then we say the minutes

When the minute hand on a clock face is on the 12, we say the time as "o'clock."
